A WELL CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER PORTABLE CHEST
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The box carved to each side with a rectangular panel enclosing Buddhistic lions with ribboned brocade balls, three to the front panel, two on back and to the top, and single lions on each side, all reserved on a diaper ground framing flower-heads, the detachable front panel opens to reveal a central compartment flanked by two further compartments with swing doors and three drawers, the compartments, drawers, reverse of the front panel and base painted in black lacquer, all suspended by a pair of gilt bronze dragon handles (minor repairs)
