Lot Essay

Beck was active in Augsburg; this is probably a late work, which shows the influence of Paris Bordone (1500-1571).
Mr. Ludwig Meyer of the Kunsthistorisches Archiv, Munich, has kindly confirmed the attribution on the basis of a photograph, in a letter dated 14 September 2000.
