(Possibly) Robert Rous, by circa 1810, Old Cwrt-yr-ala House, Michaelstone-le-Pit, Glamorganshire, and by family inheritance at Cwrt-yr-Ala to Colonel F.W.G. Gore, 1906, from whose heirs acquired with the house and its contents in 1937 by Sir Herbert Merrett (d. 1958), New Cwrt-yr-Ala House, Michaelstone-le-Pit, Glamorganshire, and by descent to the present owner.

Lot Essay

The view depicts the country house De Pauw on the left and, on the right, two inns, De Ijsbreker and Lokhorst; the scene was a popular one at the time, and versions by Abraham and Jacobus Storck are known.
