AN UNUSUAL EMBELLISHED WALL-HANGING VASE-FORM TIMEPIECE
Movement by Conyers Dunlop, London, No. 5468, circa 1780

The watch with gilt-finished movement, verge escapement, chain fusee, square baluster pillars, pierced and engraved cock, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, decorative gilt hands, hinged glass and seed pearl-set bezel, set into the widest section of the vase of flat-backed meiping form inlaid with a mosaic of irregular-shaped sapphire blue coloured glass, surrounded by a scattering of white and red daisies, the shoulder decorated with bands of red, green and yellow beads, and the waisted neck inset with a white jade Shou roundel flanked by a pair of bats, the silhouette of the vase bound by a double-border of red, white and amethyst-coloured inlays, the reverse engraved with floral scrolls, all raised on an integral silver-wire inlaid wood stand, the vase "planted" with gilt-bronze branches embellished with pearls portraying flowers and fruits symbolising wealth, movement signed
