AN INDIAN JADE HORSE HEAD HILTED SWORD
MUGHAL OR DECCANI, EARLY 18TH CENTURY
The Persian watered steel single-edged curving blade with a panel of gold damascened interlaced arabesques above on each side, the pale mottled grey nephrite jade horse-head hilt delicately carved, the neck with trefoil flowerheads in low relief, the bridle inset with gold wire, three inset red stones on the top of the head, the eyes similarly inset (one missing), the lower scrolling terminal with central rosette similarly carved and inset, later brass-mounted metal sheath, gold inlay on hilt probably later, areas of corrosion and slight damage, especially to gold inlay on hilt
