Lot Essay

Many panels of this design, executed, as here, in large size tiles, are found on the external walls of the tomb of Eyup. Three further examples are in the British Museum (Porter, Venetia: Islamic Tiles, London, 1995, Fig.96, p.107). Another example from the Heidi Vollmoeller Collection is in this sale, lot 342.
