Lot Essay

As noted in Rippon Boswell, a similar piece was published by Eskenazi, Milan, Hali, Issue 62, April 1992, p.53. On the present lot, each individual floral spray is contained within a lattice formed of serrated leaves and flowerheads, whilst on the other, the weaver has introduced a geometric quatrefoil lattice to contain the wider variety of floral sprays. Another similar example from the Battilossi Collection was sold in these Rooms, 11 February 1998, lot 92. Catalogued as Khotan, the overall design unusually reverses in direction half way through.
