The Military Costume of Turkey, London: Thomas M'Lean, 1818. 4° (362 x 254mm). Additional aquatint title, portrait of the Turkish ambassador and 29 hand-coloured aquatint plates. (Some offsetting.) Contemporary blue straight-grained morocco, spine gilt in compartments, wide floral and leafy border round sides enclosing a narrower blindstamped border, gilt edges (minor scuffmarks on sides). Provenance: Sir William F. Fowle Middleton, Bart. (19th-century armorial bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. "The artist who produced the costume drawings for this work appears to be unknown although the preface states 'the subjects which compose this selection have been furnished at the liberality of a gentleman, who had stored his portofolio during his residence at Constantinople'" (Blackmer).
