Coste took part in the French diplomatic mission to Persia in 1839-1841. He had previously worked as architect to Mehmet Ali in Egypt from 1818 to 1828. The present work is Coste's final large scale publication on Persia. cf. Blackmer 415 (where the present work is mentioned in the note); not listed in Brunet.
