COSTE, Pascal Xavier (1787-1879). Monuments Modernes de la Perse, Paris: A. Morel, 1867. 2° (551 x 432mm). Half title, title printed in red and black, 71 engraved and lithographed plates and plans by Pascal Coste on 56 sheets, 8 coloured, many double-page and numbered as 2, hinged throughout. (Light waterstain at lower margin throughout, not affecting images, some light mainly marginal spotting and staining.) Contemporary red half morocco, spine gilt (joints splitting, corners rubbed, some scratching and staining).
Coste took part in the French diplomatic mission to Persia in 1839-1841. He had previously worked as architect to Mehmet Ali in Egypt from 1818 to 1828.
