Lot Essay

Between 1922 and 1923 Swanzy embarked on a long journey to the South Seas, during which she visited Samoa. She responded excitedly to the new colours and vivid sunshine of the Tropics and her Samoan canvases are characterised by a bright palette and a bold, fluid painting style.
