Lot Essay

A cat in a cane chair centres another work by Dillon in The Yellow Bungalow (Ulster Museum and Art Gallery, Belfast). This image was also used for an illustration in 'Connemara is Ireland to me' written and illustrated by Gerard Dillon in Ireland of the Welcomes, vol. 13, no. 2, July - August 1964, published by the Irish Tourist Board. The present work portrays a peaceful interior, perhaps in a cottage on Innislacken where Dillon enjoyed a wonderful summer with his fellow artists Dan O'Neill and James MacIntyre.
