The top half of a pair of mechanic's overalls, the white cotton drill top with short sleeves trimmed with blue and red cotton stripes, the back embroidered in red and blue with the Esso logo, the front with zip fastening and four appliquéd cloth badges sewn to the front, all referring to Esso, labelled on the front Ménage à trois, New York -- worn by Eric Clapton in concert at Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, New York during his U.S. tour, June, 1974; accompanied by a corresponding black and white photograph of Clapton wearing the unaltered overalls, 1974 [printed later] -- 11¾x8in. Lot Essay
Clapton is also pictured wearing these overalls on a U.S. advertisement for Boy Howdy beer in the 1970s. The overalls have since been adapted to the current form of a zip-up top.
