Dave Hill signed Chrissie Hynde to his new-found record label, Real Records, and became her manager in March, 1978. It was Hill who introduced her to bassist, Pete Farndon and together, they formed the Pretenders with James Honeyman-Scott and Martin Chambers. They released their first single, a version of Ray Davies' Stop Your Sobbing, later that year.
