Lot Essay

Prior to their appearance at the Goldhawk Club on 3rd December, 1965, The Who had performed at Wembley for a live broadcast of Ready, Steady, Go! to mark the release of their first album My Generation. Present at the Goldhawk Club was director Michelangelo Antonioni who was searching for a group to appear in his forthcoming film Blow Up. The Who, their manager Kit Lambert and Antonioni couldn't reach agreement on either the form of their appearance in the film, or reportedly, their fee, and Antonioni eventually used The Yardbirds.
