George Harrison/Paul McCartney
A collection of material relating to the Liverpool Institute, comprising:
- a page from an exercise book signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen Hi Kids, All the best to you, George Harrison (a miserably [sic] failure at the Liverpool Institute). 14/10/82, additionally inscribed with a sanskrit symbol -- 6¼x8in. (15.8x20.3cm.);
- an autograph note, signed, in black ballpoint pen, from George Harrison to Derek Taylor, dated 20th January, 1984, asking ...do me a favour Squire & return this Institute mag to that nice man John Newall. Come to think of it - he knew all about the Labour Gvmt and local issues etc and etc etc etc... See also p. 37 Old Boys Notes ..."On a less serious note... Anyway all the best and back to the bamboo, George, 1p.;
- two autograph notes from Derek Taylor to John Newall, one dated 11th February, 1984, enclosing the Liverpool Institute magazine in this lot from George Harrison with the above note ...I was with George the night we visited the school. It was good meeting you + the caretaker. He (George) didn't have good schooldays and that's a pity but he has transcended it since by determined self-education so may be something did go in, only no-one noticed at the time..., 2pp., the other thanking him for his letter, 1p.;
- a Liverpool Institute High School "Green Book", 1959, detailing all pupils attending the school that year, page 45 detailing McCartney, P.M., Form RC, House A, Date Of Birth 7-1-44 and Year Of Entry 55.3; and
- a Liverpool Institute Magazine, Volume LXXI, Number 2, July, 1963, page 37 announcing ...On a less serious note, Mr. G. Harrison (1956) and Mr. P. McCartney (1956) have found success as members of "The Beatles" singing group and have had a number of television and local stage appearances. They recently made their second record to top the national Hit Parade... (7)
