This would seem to be the tomb of Sayyida Nafisa, granddaughter of al-Hasan, the Prophet's grandson. After her marriage she moved to Cairo, and soon became known as a great scholar, going on to teach others including the Imam Shafi'i. Along with Sayyida Ruqqaya she is considered to be a patron saint of the city of Cairo. It is said that when she died in her sixties, her husband was persuaded by an admiring public to have her body buried in Cairo rather than returned to her native Arabia. She has become a legendary figure, described as a role model for other Muslim women.

The tomb stands alone, isolated from other evidence of the city. A fairly austere view is immediately softened by the inclusion of a figure with an animal, probably a mule, standing by the high wall at the base of the monument.
