A portrait of an anonymous camel driver who has evidently mastered the art of the long still pose. The narrow depth of field necessary to reduce the exposure time results in the background vanishing in a blur, but this time the sitter is firmly grounded. He sits in the road on a rickety structure resembling a crate that looks as though it could easily have collapsed before the exposure was complete. His hands are firmly clasped over his knees, with his legs crossed above bare feet. He wears a simple, typical costume and his face, turned slightly, is clear enough for us to see that he has a moustache. He looks, with some doubt, away from the camera towards something or someone out of the frame. Perhaps the photographer was standing there, or perhaps his camels were becoming impatient.
This is the only portrait of the camel driver in the archive.
