The gilt coat of arms on the front cover (illus.) represents the House of Viceroy Mohammed Ali Pasha (1805-1848), the founder of the dynasty which ruled Egypt from 1805 to 1952. The initials 'I.H.' below the coat of arms is likely to be those of Hassan Ismail Pasha (1854-1888), son of Viceroy Khedive Ismail Pasha (1830-1895) who built modern Cairo during is 16 year reign.
