Two Qur'an folios, Probably Shiraz, mid-16th century
Sura al-baqara II, vv.158-171 and sura al-maidah V, vv. 56-67, manuscript on buff paper, each leaf with 12ll. of alternating black and gold muhaqqaq, the paper sprinkled blue or brown, gold rosettes between verses, fine blue and gold illuminated medallions in margins, framed and glazed -- Folio 41.7 x 27.1cm. Lot Essay

These two folios come from a beautiful and luxurious copy of the Qur'an probably produced in Shiraz in the mid 16th century.
