Paris, 1764/1765, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost 1762-1768, maker's marks rubbed
Oval black 'Japanese style' lacquer box, all over inlaid with a diaperwork pattern of shimmering and gold shell burgau in the Japanese somada technique, the cover centred by an oval reserve of a raised silvered lacquer landscape, framed by a pierced gold leaf and ribbon mount, the sides with four oval reserves decorated with Oriental flowers in flat and raised gold and silver lacquer within raised borders, engraved gold mounts and applied thumbpiece, the inside lined with flecked composition
