A LOUIS XVI GOLD SEALING-WAX CASE
by Jean-Antoine Joubert (fl. 1777-1791), marked, Paris, 1783/1784, with the second charge marks and discharge mark for small items of Henry Clavel 1782-1789, and with an indistinct mark
Slightly tapering étui-à-cire of oval section, all four sides of cover and base with rectangular panels of horizontally reeded guilloché stamped with scattered pellets, divided by sablé gold bands applied with raised gold beads, the matted gold borders with ropetwist bands, bright-cut rims, domed cap and blank matrix
