Rectangular étui-à-tablettes, both sides of cover and base inset with bevelled mocha-coloured fossilized wood plaques, obverse and reverse of cover applied with pierced gold inscription souvenir d'amitie on a scroll, both sides of the base applied with silver-gilt mounted oval enamel plaques painted en grisaille with Briseis and Achilles, and Hector and Priam at the walls of Troy, the gold mounts engraved with stylized acanthus, the convex polished gold sides engraved with trailing foliage within foliate ribbon-twist borders, globular thumbpiece, the inside fitted with a gold ear-spoon, gold capped pencil and gold-rivetted two-leaved tablets
