the box by Guidon, Gide & Blondet, marked, Geneva, circa 1800, later struck with the Viennese duty mark for gold ('Goldrepunze') of 1806/1807, the micromosaic Roman, circa 1800
Octagonal box, the cover inset with a rectangular micromosaic depicting St Peter's square in Rome, within a stamped stylized acanthus gold border framed by a blue enamel fillet, the broad black enamel border engraved with taille d'épargne scrolling foliage and flowerheads, the four side and base panels engine-turned and enamelled in translucent blue and black with a pattern of blue hexagons on off-centre radiating guilloché sunbursts surrounded by black triangles, the side corners enamelled in black, blue and white and engraved with taille d'épargne gold flowers
