With shell scroll handles enriched in gilt, painted with circular panels of putti enblematic of Astrology and Geometry, each scantilly clad and seated within landscapes reserved on the dotted turquoise ground within a gilt ciselé band and a further reserved ribbon edged in gilt and painted with a berried garland, the ribbon linking reserved panels beneath the handles painted with a berried wreath, moulded gilt rim

The present bottle cooler has been confirmed by David Peters as almost certainly from the service ordered in 1770 by Madame du Barry. It will be included in his long awaited book, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, due to be published at the end of this year.
