Lot Essay

In the mid-18th Century the Château d'Eu was owned by the Comte d'Eu, a grandson of Louis XIV and Mme de Montespan and passed in the late 18th Century to the Orléans branch of th Bourbon family in whose possession it remained (except for a Napoleonic intermission). Louis Philippe, 1830-1848, restored and refurnished the castle and employed this stencil.
