Lot Essay

This delicately carved table with its panelled legs and frieze, and masks supporting the capitals, is related to one with accompanying trumeau, from the Palazzo Farrattini, Amelia, sold Christie's, house sale, 18 May 1990, lot 218. The carving and general structure of the table is further inspired by the famous side table executed by Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo for Stupinigi, Piedmont, in 1787 (M. Tagliapietra Rasi, Museo dell'Arredamento Stupinigi, La Palazzina di caccia, Turin, 1966, fig. 115).
