A LATE LOUIS XVI BISCUIT PORCELAIN-MOUNTED TWO-TONE ORMOLU AND WHITE MARBLE PAGODA CLOCK
CIRCA 1785, SIGNED BY THE RETAILER GAVELLE
The circular glazed enamelled dial with Roman and Arabic chapters and pierced and chased ormolu hands and eccentric winding holes, inscribed Gavelle L.né L.ndo., the movement with twin spring barrels and countwheel strike on a bell, set in a two-tier pagoda with baluster columns and pierced galleries and friezes with bell-pendants, the mid-level with dragons and the top with pearled swags and Chinese figure with parasol, the lower level with a figure group of two Chinese figures, on toupie feet, the biscuit porcelain with chips, the inside of the bezel inscribed in black ink ... Gavelle, the underside of the mid-level with paper label inscribed A.1669/1
