Lot Essay
In the years before he became a well-known and sought-after artist with a constant stream of commissions, Munnings was free to paint subjects of his own choosing. These early pictures show his love of the turn-of-the-century British country life. The present view is a nostalgic, private moment; a young lady and her 'beau' walking in the countryside. Executed in watercolour it shows Munnings's acute sense of observation and sensitivity to his surroundings.
