Born in Brussels, Griset moved to London in the 1860s. He was famed for his comic depictions of animals, he particularly delighted in drawing the basic behavioural similarities of people and animals. He attracted the attention of the Dalziel Brothers and Tom Hood and later worked for Fun and Punch.
