AN EGYPTIAN BRONZE CAT
LATE PERIOD TO PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, 664-30 B.C.
Hollow cast and finely modelled, depicted seated with the front paws together, the tail wrapped around its body to the right, the fur rendered by incision, wearing an incised broad-collar, a wadjet-eye on the neck above, the eyes deeply recessed for now-missing inlays, the top of the head also recessed for a now-missing inlay of a scarab, the legs of which are incised, the erect ears pierced for now-missing earrings, a broad cylindrical shaft below the body and a short tang below the forepaws for insertion
