A PAIR OF MONUMENTAL JAPANESE BRONZE URNS
Late 19th century
Cast in sections with two large large central panels with pairs of long-tailed birds and peacocks, the neck cast with a scene of apsaras playing flutes and drums and the multi-tiered base with animal masks, bands of dense foliate scroll, swirling dragons with flaming pearls and birds and flowers punctuated by geometric or lappet bands, the top section fitted with large, snarling Chinese kilin handles and fanciful beast masks
