Lot Essay

This rendition of the Daruma, the legendary founder of Zen Buddhism, is an early work by the Buddhist temple artist Yaoji Kosetu (1886-1972), a graduate of Tokyo University of Art and apprentice to Shimomura Kanzan (1871-1930).
