Lot Essay

Adriaen Wulffaert (1804-1873) studied at the Bruges School of Art. He then travelled to Paris where he remained for a year before settling in Ghent in 1831 and later in Antwerp where he married. His painting 'Light reconnaissance troops in Bruges' of 1831 was exhibited in Bruges Museum the same year. At the National Exhibition in Brussels in 1842 two works were shown 'A moment of hesitation beofre signing the marriage contract' and 'Zealand Costumes, Isle of South Beverland'.
