The shaped moulded later brèche violette marble top above a pierced rockwork and flower strewn frieze, on conforming cabriole legs joined by a c-scroll stretcher centred by a shell with flaming torch and quiver or arrows, redecorated

Lot Essay

The garland and richly fretted serpentine frame of this console, with flowered and scalloped cartouche is designed in the Louis XV manner popularized by engraved table patterns invented by the sculptor Nicholas Pineau (d.1754) and published by J.J. Mariette, in L'Architecture Française, 1727-1738 and Nouveaux Dessins de Tables et de vases et Consoles de sculpture en bois, 1734
