Woven in wools and silks, depicting an elegantly clad couple seated in a landscaped garden with a party and a castle beyond, within an elaborate border of fruit and foliage with female allegorical figures, in a blue outer slip, with Brussels town mark and weaver's mark, minor restoration and reweaving throughout

Lot Essay

Antoon Leyniers (active circa 1540 - circa 1570) belonged to one of the oldest and best-known weaving dynasties of Brussels. There is mention of this family as early as the 16th century and as late as 1768, when Daniel III finally closed the workshop.
