The nameship of her class of light cruiser, Caroline was built at Cammel Lairds in 1914 and joined the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, Grand Fleet as leader in December that year. Serving at Jutland, after the War she was paid off into Dockyard control and from 1924 has served as a Depot and Training Ship for the Royal Navy Reserve.
