A 19TH CENTURY R.N.L.I. FUND-RAISING MODEL OF THE 42ft. LIFEBOAT EDITH & ANNIE OF CIRCA 1888
with collapsible masts, rigging, deck rails, rowlocks, cross boards, thwarts, two sets of stowed oars one set painted white, the other blue, furled and stowed sails, tiller and other details. The carved simulated clinker hull with bouyancy rim, ropes, drop metal keel and rudder is finished in blue and red with applied cartouche to bow reading SUPPORTED BY VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS NATIONAL LIFE BOAT INSTITUTION, and mounted on two turned metal columns on a walnut display board with wood bound glass cover (restoration). Overall measurements -- 24½ x 28in. (62 x 71cm.)

Built by the Barrow Naval Construction & Armaments Co. at a cost of £844.0.7d, Edith & Annie, lifeboat no. ON208, was based at Southport from 1888 to 1902 where she was launched nine times and saved twelve lives before being sold locally.
