Despite its apparent strangeness to modern eyes, [The] Brothers was a remarkably popular name for sailing vessels in the first half of the nineteenth century, with this particular brig's life spanning almost that entire period. Built at Poole in 1818 and measured at 111 (or 112) tons, she was owned for most of her long career by Slade & Co. of Poole who traded her out of that port to Newfoundland until she disappears from record around 1850.
