The view looks upstream towards Pill with Hungwood on the right, the Lamplighters Hall in the centre and Shirehampton on the left. The first steamer to operate a regular service in the West Country was the Charlotte which ran between Bristol and Bath on the Avon from 1813-14. By 1822, a regular service was operating between Bristol, Cork, Dublin, Swansea, Chepstow and Newport.
