Untitled

A master of the animated silhouette, Keith Haring's work has always been lauded for its simplicity and visual movement. Untitled is an excellent, late Haring painting that morphs two of his classic subjects--a barking dog and "man in motion" into a single quasi-surrealist entity. Untitled is from a group of 60 x 60 inch paintings, marked by their large, simplified forms and rigid geometric compositions. Formally, the main figure in Untitled is contained within the confines of the thick black border, and appears to be straining against it, with it's dog head furiously barking at its predicament. With its combination of simplicity, humor and flatness, Haring presages a large and disparate younger generation of young artists, such as Julian Opie, Takashi Murakami and others.
