AN ETRUSCAN BRONZE JANIFORM BALSAMARIUM
CIRCA 3RD-EARLY 2ND CENTURY B.C.
In the form of conjoined heads of a maenad and satyr, the maenad dominating the ensemble, with her hair arranged in a melon coiffure and bound in diadem with a rosette at its center and double-bead pendants along its length, feathery wings at the volutes above the ears, wearing a necklace of drop-shaped pendants with matching earrings, the bearded satyr with a foliate fillet on his furrowed brow, with two suspension loops at the crown of the maenad's head, the slanted vessel mouth with incised angled lines
