A ROMAN BRONZE CUPID
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
The youthful god depicted nude, his body lengthened and spiralling to his right, his head angled down at the downturned torch in his lowered right arm, with his straight right leg advanced and turned out to the right, his weight on the balls of his feet, the heels lifted, his left arm raised and bent acutely, once holding an attribute, his wavy hair with a thick central plait and cork-screw curls falling to his shoulders, his wings spread behind (one preserved), a circular mortise between his shoulder blades
