A ROMAN BRONZE YOUTH
CIRCA 1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
Preserving the separately-cast upper half of a figure, originally joined to the lower half or a herm shaft, perhaps depicting a charioteer, his head inclined forward and to his right, the right arm lowered with the fingers extended and curled, the left arm pulled back, the hand fisted, a mantle draped around his waist and over his left shoulder, with a tasseled fringe along the shoulder, his hair falling in long corkscrew curls, the eyes recessed for now-missing inlays
