A 19th century gold and mosaic brooch by G.Barberi,
the oval black glass panel inset with a folk scene of a courting couple in traditional dress, in a gold scroll design surround, panel signed on the reverse G Barberi, panel damaged, in a fitted case, circa 1840.

Gioacchino Barberi, 1783 - 1857, was recorded by Moroni in 1847 as one of the leading artists of miniature micromosaics. His studio was situated at 99 Piazza di Spagna near the Spanish Steps.
