A fine 19th century hardstone cameo brooch by Luigi Rosi,
the oval agate plaque carved in white relief to depict the full length figure of a dancing muse, possibly Terpsichore, to gold archaeological style frame with corded wire decoration, set at intervals with half pearls, signed L.Rosi to the front and inscribed to the reverse Luigi Rosi, Roma, Piazza di Spagna, 86, circa 1870.

Luigi Rosi was a pupil of the celebrated Giovanni (Johan) Dies who was among those to supply gems to Prince Stanislaus Poniatowski.
