the walnut case with inlaid raised lid panel, picture inside with inlaid brass Polyphon title, burr-walnut side and front panels with astragal mouldings and carved plinth moulding, on matching cabinet stand with door to disc storage compartment and drawer below -- 44½in. (113cm.) high; a single-comb Polyphon movement; a double-comb Polyphon bedplate (with combs); and approximately twenty discs, in a wood box

Lot Essay

This case has in the past been adapted as a gramophone, with an internal horn in the disc storage compartment; this has left only two of the internal divisions (reversed), and the woodwork around the mechanism is missing. There are two extra winding holes in the side; a Polyphon winder and escutcheon are included.
