A fine 18th century carved and painted wooden doll
with 'stitched' brows, inset dark eyes, detailed chin and breasts and white painted, well jointed legs, in original closed robe of pink and green figured silk and wool mix with one leading string remaining, double sleeve ruffles at the elbows, low square neckline and back lacing, the linen petticoat painted with pink and green flower sprigs, a fringed braid scalloping the hem, her boots of red flannel and her shift of cotton, with next generation green and cream brocade bonnet trimmed with pink silk ribbands, silk net cap and madder printed cotton fischu, circa 1775 --15in. (38cm.) high (small flake of paint off chin, the flake is retained with department and replaced white kid arms)

Provenance
From the family of The Hon. Diana Sturt, daughter of 2nd Baron Alington born 1884, who married Henry 4th Baron Brougham and Vaux, a descendant of the inventor of the carriage bearing his name. By descent to the present owner.
