Sir Arthur CONAN DOYLE. Autograph manuscript fragment of the final eleven lines of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story 'The Adventure of the Reigate Squires', written in pen on lined paper, inscribed in blue crayon, in left-hand margin '36', lower left-hand corner removed not affecting text, a little foxed, with rust marks from paper clip, 117 x 180mm.

"Watson, I think our quiet rest in the country has been a distinct success and I shall certainly return much invigorated to Baker Street tomorrow."

'The Adventure of the Reigate Squires' was published in The Strand Magazine, June 1893, Vol. 5, pp. 601-12 as the sixth in the second series of Sherlock Holmes stories, and collected in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes published in 1894 by George Newnes, London and Harper & Brothers, New York. In the American edition the story is entitled 'The Adventure of the Reigate Puzzle'.
