A collection of letters, scorecards and printed ephemera relating to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's cricketing career, comprising:
W.G. GRACE (1848-1915). Autograph letter signed to Conan Doyle, London County Cricket Club, Crystal Palace, 19 February 1901, suggesting that Conan Doyle accept the presidency of the LCCC's newly established bowling club, 'you can come down just when it is convenient, we will not bother you in any way', 2 pages, 8vo;
C.B. FRY (1872-1956). Autograph letter signed to Conan Doyle, Glenbourne Manor, 4 June 1907, declining an invitation play for his team because 'I am hovering uncomfortably on the verge of having a go for Sussex ... If I do play Thursday & if all goes well I shall most likely continue first-class cricket', 1¼ pages, 4to;
Sir Arthur CONAN DOYLE. Autograph letter signed, Undershaw, n.d., a mock 'Sub Poena' to E.W. Hornung, 'Your presence is requested at the Undershaw Assizes ... The following cases are down for trial. Aug 1st Yourself & others v Turle [etc] ... The former recorder of the Court, Miss Doyle, who escaped to India & there changed her name has been identified & brought back to resume her duties' [a reference to Lottie Doyle's marriage to Leslie Oldham, an officer stationed in India], 1½ pages, 8vo, laid down on card;
[and:] a series of 17 printed scorecards mostly for matches in which Conan Doyle played for MCC vs Minor Counties, Cambridgeshire, Lancashire and others, or for the Authors against the Publishers, and a bound volume of 'Scores of [MCC] matches etc 1902'; [with] a printed article by Conan Doyle, 'W.G. Grace. A Memory', describing his experiences of playing against Grace; and a photograph. (25)
