Tasting note: "We never had such an expression of noble rot (botrytis) in Vouvray as with the 1990," says Noël Pinguet, adding "like all great botrytis wines, these show some volatile acidity." Let me reassure tasters, it is entirely in balance. The colour is medium-deep amber-brown, the nose evoking oranges, with roasted apricot and peach. Noble-rotten, concentrated character dominates this wine, almost eclipsing its Vouvray identity - but what a fabulous sweet richness, with sufficient freshness, and such powerful, mouth-coating length.
